What Causes an Alert About A Business?
Safe and Trusted Canada applies Alerts only to Account Holders. Information Only Profiles do not display Alerts.
An Alert may be applied when an Account Holder publishes information in its business listing that appears to be false or misleading, or that cannot reasonably be supported upon request.
What May Result in an Alert
- Licensing where applicable.
- Insurance, including liability insurance or WCB coverage.
- Certifications, professional designations, or qualifications.
- Industry affiliations or memberships.
- Claimed years in business.
- Services offered that cannot reasonably be supported.
- Statements suggesting specialization, expertise, or qualifications that cannot reasonably be supported.
- Trusted Factors that are false, misleading, or unsupported.
- Images, PDF documents, videos, or other content that falsely suggest qualifications, experience, or affiliations.
- Approving customer reviews submitted by owners, employees, family members, or anyone directly or indirectly connected with the business.
- Approving reviews from individuals who are not actual customers.
What Does Not Trigger an Alert
- Missing or incomplete information.
- Information Only Profiles.
- Consumer opinions or ratings.
- Customer complaints or disputes.
- A business choosing not to provide Trusted Factors.
Business Responsibility
Each Account Holder controls the content of its listing and agrees to present information that is honest, truthful, accurate, and reasonably supportable.
Businesses should publish only information they can reasonably demonstrate if requested.
Because Account Holders control their own listing content, they assume responsibility for information they publish, including Trusted Factors, review approvals, hiring notices, affiliations, website links, videos, PDF documents, and other business information.
Closed Business
When we receive reliable information that an Account Holder has permanently ceased operating, the business may receive an Alert indicating that it is no longer in business.
The Alert normally remains on the listing for one year. After that period, the business is archived and no longer publicly displayed, unless there are outstanding issues that require the listing to remain active.
Consumer Responsibility
Safe and Trusted Canada provides information to help consumers compare businesses. Consumers remain responsible for conducting their own research and making their own purchasing decisions.
We encourage consumers to review the information available, ask questions, verify important details, and protect their interests at all times
The Account Holder has gone out of business.
The Alert is placed on the business for one year. After one year, the company is archived and no longer visible.
As a consumer, protect your interests at all times.
Account Holders - To protect consumers, other businesses, and the integrity of the Site, Account Holders have higher standards and greater responsibilities as a business.
The reason for this is that the company is now placing content on our Site and has control over reviews, the placement of now-hiring links, links to affiliations, and the placement of their credentials in their business profile. The company sets an alert if they place credentials in their business profile that they do not possess, or if they post reviews on their profile from people who are directly or indirectly connected to the firm. Archiving cannot happen if the business has an alert. See Alerts
